Since electronic components give off heat during their operation, and since overheating can damage them prematurely, ventilation is necessary. Air intake vents on the chassis allow a small fan, usually mounted at the |back panel|, to draw air into the case and circulate it around the components. This keeps them relatively cool. The warm air is then passed out of the system through the exhaust fan on the back panel.
